The Head of Federal Civil Service of the Federation, Professor Oladapo Afolabi has commended the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Ilorin for its role in ensuring industrial peace and harmony through manpower development for the social partners in the Nigerian Labour Sector.

Professor Afolabi who made this remark during a visit to the Institute campus also praised the efforts of the Institute’s management in the transformation of the Institute as a respected labour education provider in Nigeria and internationally.

The Head of the Federal Civil Service affirmed that the Federal Government would continue to support institutions that can promote capacity building and enhance socio-economic development as a strategy towards achieving its developmental goals.

He alluded to the fact that social dialogue has become an effective tool in conflict management in the Nation’s Public Sector and praised MINILS for training labour leaders in this respect.

The Director-General of MINILS, Dr. John Niyi Olanrewaju while welcoming the Head of the Federal Civil Service of the Federation, Professor Oladapo Afolabi appreciated his efforts at repositioning the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and its agencies during his short but eventful period as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. He particularly praised the HOSF for strengthening MINILS linkage with International Partners such as the American Labour Sector during the period.

Dr John Niyi Olanrewaju, who referred to Professor Afolabi as a committed friend of labour, said that “It is on record that you chaired the Wage Relative Committee which resulted in bridging the gap between the salaries of the public servant and the political office holders, and thereby improve performances in the public sector.”

The MINILS Director-General, who lauded the sterling leadership qualities of the HOSF, stated that he laid the foundation of the blue - print containing the strategic plans of the Ministry of Labour as a major player in national development.
